Oh help, the holidays are coming!
Did you know there are people for whom holidays are a source of stress? Who dread them?
They do exist. Because a holiday means breaking your daily rhythm.
Breaking free from your familiar patterns and habits, plus a change of surroundings.
And then, of course, there’s the packing…

Relax? But what if I don’t sleep…
We go on holiday to enjoy ourselves and relax properly. Everyone in their own
way. Some like to chill out on a beach, others like walking in
nature or soaking up culture. A nice break from what you normally do. On the one
hand that’s a wonderful idea, that break and the holiday, and on the other
hand you actually dread it. Rather an odd phenomenon really.

I spoke to a number of people a few days ago about the theme of holidays and sleep. And we got talking about what can be so threatening about a holiday when it comes to sleep. ‘Different bed, different pillow, what does the room look like, is it quiet or not, and oh, is there air conditioning, surely that won’t make too much noise? That’s definitely not going to work, sleeping there. I’ll come back exhausted. Should we even go?’
Away? Or at home
All sorts of thoughts our brain produces to ruin our holiday,
even before we’ve left. Our brain doesn’t do this on purpose! It actually
means quite well, because it wants to warn us of a possible threat.
There’s naturally a chance we won’t sleep well there. Everything is different from normal.
And we do need to be prepared for that, don’t we? So really you’d
love nothing more than to get away, but your brain convinces you of how dramatic it
could turn out to be

I’m going on a trip and I’m taking with me
Wouldn’t you love to just leave this brain at home? Because you do want to head off
and really enjoy yourself and relax, don’t you? Well, then there’s nothing else
for it but to just go! There you go, brain and all. Complete with all those thoughts.
‘Great, but that doesn’t solve my problem.
I’m seriously worried about sleeping there.’ I can already hear these questions racing through your
mind. And I get it, really. But tell me, does it help if you worry
about it? And keep asking yourself things? Does that get you any closer to the solution:
a lovely, relaxed holiday? Yes? Wonderful, congratulations! No? Then it
might be a good idea to try a different approach. Email me
your worries, or come to our free info session on Thursday 13 July at 5:00 pm. Then
we’ll get to work on it. Because anyone can sleep. So can you!
